Nurgle Standard Brew – Evil Township Deck (WW kinda)

Hello my Nurglings!

Time to go back and look at a deck that I posted a short while ago, the deck that I then called: WW Token Enchantress. Was it a good name? No, maybe not but it was the best I could come up with on a short notice. The deck has now actually been played during an FNM, with a few changes though. (We had to build it in 10 minutes before the tournament started and a few weird changes had to be made).

I was lucky enough to see a complete game with the deck, and as a bystander I could see the issues and what I needed to change. The deck played Mirran Crusader in this hasty version, which was not in the old list (a good add though it wrecks with one or two Honor Of The Pure on the field).

I also noticed that Mesa Enchantress, even though I love her and want to see her in a deck, is not a good enough card. You want to play the enchantments as quick as possible, and that was slowed down by having an enchantress in your hand. The reason; you want to draw that extra card so you have to play Enchantress first. Conclusion: Mesa Enchantress is being scrapped.

Oh my lord there are being so many changes made to this deck, mainly the creature line up. Let’s take a look at it.

Creatures:
4x Doomed Traveler
4x Mirran Crusader
4x Geist-Honored Monk
2x Hero Of Bladehold

So already we’re seeing a big difference from the old list. Mirran Crusader is added because he was just too awesome to resist, the spot was originally planned to held by Mausoleum Guard so if you’re not feeling like playing Crusaders that’s another sweet pick. Leonin Arbiter is also taken out for a more solid pick in Hero Of Bladehold, you cannot deny her awesomeness.

Quickly moving on:

Enchantments: 8
4x Honor Of The Pure
4x Intangible Virtue

Other Spells: 14
4x Timley Reinforcment
4x Midnight Haunting
4x Altar’s Reap
2x Elspeth Tirel

So now you see why the deck is “evil”, I play four Altar’s Reap to reap the benefits of plenty of token creatures. The deck was originally created to be cheap to play, Elspeth Tirel was actually Doom Blades up till the second I posted the deck here. But obviously she is better for the deck, and doom blades can be in the side board if needed. Or Elspeth can be replaced by Doom Blade if you want to play a cheaper version. Elspeth is a though card though, it was either her or two other cards that that I would love to play in the deck, look below to see which cards I was thinking about.

And the lands:

Land: 24
2x Ghost Quarter
4x Swamp
4x Isolated Chapel
14x Plains

Well that’s it for this time, another take on a WW type of deck, with a higher mana curve than usual. But I hope you like this brew of a deck and please comment if you try it out or have any changes or ideas for it. (Like adding space for those Swords!)

Until next time, take care.

WW deck – Token Enchantress – Standard MTG

Hello my Nurglings!

I know you love me when I show you decks and guess what? It’s time for another one, and it’s all about one type of deck that I love; WW. Kind of? Perhaps? Maybe like WW? So why did I look at this deck to begin with for the coming format? It’s mostly because of two cards, two enchantments none the less.

Look at the two cards (Honor Of The Pure / Intangible Virtue), is this a match made in heaven or what? If you can play a deck that gets enough white token creature, you’re in the awesome! And this deck, does just that. Let’s look at the creatures first shall we.

Creature: 17
4x Mesa Enchantress
4x Geist-Honored Monk
4x Doomed Traveler
4x Leonin Arbiter
1x Sun Titan

So you’re looking at this thinking: That’s not a lot of token creators mr Nurgle. Well guess what? This is not the place for that. But you still have Doomed Traveler and Geist-Honored Monk is in the deck to help you with the token creation. Monk is a fantastic card with just one or two +1/+1 enchantments out. Two extra 3/3 flyers with your new 4/4 or 5/5 Vigilance creature, is nothing to laugh at for just the 5 mana.

Mesa Enchantress add some extra draw when you play your enchantments, that can be vital for not running out of steam.Leonin arbiter is a card that I’m just trying out with Ghost Quarter to see how that works in an actual deck. Otherwise it will be traded out for some other great white creatures (there are plenty of them in the format).

NEXT! Wait wait, before looking at the enchantments, I just want to say: don’t have much to say about them. They are self explanatory.

Enchantment: 12
4x Honor Of The Pure
4x Intangible Virtue
4x Oblivion Ring

Other Spells: 8
4x Midnight Haunting
4x Timeley Reinforcment

Here they are, the token creators, survival and combat tricks. Three mana for two possible 3/3 flyers in instant speed, sounds bad? I think not. These are eight cards that are awesome in themselves, but becomes even better the more +1/+1 enchantments you hit. If you manage to get 4 enchantments out at anytime, these cards create 5/5 creatures, with vigilance, and a few of them even fly. It’s sweet!

Oh and:

Land: 23
19x Plains
4x Ghost Quarter

Well that’s it for now.
Until next time, stay safe.

7 Decks, 7 Games, 7 Days – White Weenie (Magic The Gathering Standard)

Welcome back to 777, this week I will be posting one deck from a new card game every day! This is the second deck getting a spot here on the blog.
This time it took me a lot of time to find a deck to write about, I worked on some ideas, but really didn’t find a deck that I would like to show. So I looked back at the decks that I’m currently working on for standard and I will show you one of those. This time, it’s White Weenie!

Let’s start with the creatures.

Creature: 18
4x Grand Abolisher
4x Kor Firewalker
4x Puresteel Paladin
4x Kor Skyfisher
2x Kemba, Kha Regent

You’re probably looking at that Kor Firewalker and thinking: Why is he in the main deck? Well it’s mostly because of my local metagame. There are so many red decks and red cards and burns and things flying in to my tiny creatures every round. So having a Firewalker in the main feels like a must.

Puresteel and Skyfisher are there to put me up with a draw engine and a flyer that will help me against those annoying Inkmouth Nexus’. Not played as much here anymore, but I still want to be able to block them if needed.

Grand Abolisher is just an amazing card, no combat tricks on my round, and that means that I can attack an open field without a worry. Kemba is there to abuse the eight equipments in the deck. Kemba together with Swiftfoot Boots feels like a match made in heaven.

There aren’t that many “other spells” so let’s just show them all at the same time.

Enchantment: 8
4x Oblivion Ring
4x Honor Of The Pure

Artifact: 8
4x Swiftfoot Boots
4x Flayer Husk

Instant: 4
4x Brave The Elements

Enchantments: obvious. Honor Of The Pure for power, Oblivion Ring to deal with the most annoying things on the field.
Equipment: I’ve heard that haste and hexproof is awesome. Did I mention all of those red decks in my area? Try and do a Lightning Bolt in my creatures now bastards! Flayer husk is a card that I’m not to sure about, I’m using it because it can be a 1/1 hitter early. I still wouldn’t mind using cards like Sylvok Lifestaff or Basilisk Collar. I will have to do more testing to make sure what works the best.

Brave The Elements. This card is such a hero in most games. I can’t even count the times this card has won me games, either by doing an all out attack with my opponent unable to block, or by protecting my creatures from removal. With this, Swiftfoot Boots, Grand Abolisher and Kor Firewalker I’m really hoping to kick the ass out of the format in my area.

The Lands:

Land: 22
20x Plains
2x Buried Ruin

I don’t want to be all to fancy when it comes to the lands, you could add fetches to get your lands out of the deck faster, use something else than Buried Ruin (a card that I love). You could use the protection land Sejiri Steppe, the graveyard control land Emeria, The Sky Ruin, or the land removal Tectonic Edge. I really didn’t have to much to say about this deck, it’s nothing to special, but I hope you enjoyed it.

Until next time, be sure to stop that Abolisher from hitting the field!

Magic 2012 – Let’s talk about the Tribes

Hello M12! I’m glad to see you made it here safe and with some sweet reprints and new cards! It’s always exciting to see what’s coming out in a new set, and like the player I am, I can never decide on what I want to play, it’s horrible to be that kind of person in a collectable card game, trust me. With so many new sweet toys and cards that leave the format, it’s kind of hard for me to see where I want to go.

Lately I’ve been playing a lot of mono black decks, mostly because that’s what I’ve been playing from the start. But with my favorite black tribe, vampires, leaving the game (and at the same time getting new cards *sad face*) I’m taking a step back from one of my two favorite colors, the other being green. It was a fun format that let me play around a lot with that because of Verdant Catacombs, the green/black fetch.

With play testing lately I’ve also realized that tribe decks are the ones that I enjoy playing the most. Be it vampires, elves or even white weenie which is my current favorite one even though I love green and black. Fun decks are also close to my heart, the ones of you that know me out there in the real world, knows that I love cards like Scythe Tiger and Sorin Markov, not the greatest cards in the format, well except for Schyte Tiger, it’s the best card ever!

Here he is again bragging of his great success!

Now that you know where I come from when looking through the new cards, let ‘s start with what I’ve just talked about; the tribes! There are currently five tribes in M12, White Weenie (Yes I’m counting that), Elves, Goblins, Zombies and Illusions. Illusions being a completely “new” blue tribe, they’re finally taking a step away from the Merfolk and giving us something new to play with. Illusions are also keeping their, if you’re targeted you die ability which probably will be their downfall in the end, but that’s where the lord comes in. Giving all illusions +1/+1 and Hexproof (or troll shroud if you prefer). With the new illusion clone for two mana (Phantasmal Image), and having protection thanks to counter spells, this tribe may be worth looking in to.

Two other cards should also be mentioned when talking about the tribes of M12 and the first one is the completely new card Adoptive Automaton, which is an artifact creature that lets’ you choose a creature type, he becomes that type and gives all other creatures of that type +1/+1. It’s quite a good add to any of the tribes that are lacking that extra power, except for WW which can’t use him that well.

The second oddly placed tribe leader, is a new vampire, to be honest, I’m somewhat excited about him and what this means for the next block, but I also feel zombies will be the main focus when it comes to black tribes, seeing as they got plenty of support cards in M12. Hell at least we can enjoy our vampires a bit longer even if the new ones aren’t as great as the Zendikar ones! He’s a vampire 3/3 flyer with Bloodthirst 3. While he’s on the field, vampire you cast get Bloodthirst 3 as well, ah nifty trick if you ask me, the positive thing with this type of lord is the fact that he won’t need to stay on the field to have supported the other vampires. The negative part being that you need to get some damage in to make him viable. But casting a 4/4 or a 5/4 vampire with lifelink for two mana seems quite awesome if you ask me.

Before I end this I also want to mention one tribe that just kind of popped up in M12, and even though I don’t believe it will be played all that much, it’s still kind of enjoyable to see.

THE SPIDERS!

So that’s that for the different Tribes of M12. Do you have a favorite?
