Netrunner – Top 5 cards – Order and Chaos

Okay so I want to start of by saying that plenty of cards in the set have a place somewhere, and some cards work great in different types of combos. In this list there are cards that I can immediately see a good place for without having to show you 2-3 other cards to explain the value.

Other than that it will be very interesting to see how the cards from Order and Chaos will be used. So before I go in to the 5 cards that I like, I should really mention 3 other cards that may have caught your eye.

Netrunner - Eater
Netrunner - Government Takeover
Netrunner - Traffic Accident

Eater

Yes, it’s a great card, being able to take care of any ice out there at the cost of you not being able to access cards, of course this wont matter if you play with different replacement effects that let’s you do other things or trigger other effects. Great card that will be played, but not one that I’m THAT excited about.

Government Takeover
This card is getting plenty of buss because one, it’s a huge score card, 2 it has a greaaaat effect if you manage to actually do so. But still meh under my radar.

Traffic Accident
I mean, 2 damage for 0 money, yes pulease! Needs 2 tags to do it tho, but in the right deck. Holy moly can you gather a good hand of burn cards.

Now to the cards I do care about!

Netrunner - I've Had Worse
5 I’ve had worse
About time we got a second good draw card, mixing this with Diesel feels… well… great. But it’s not the only great thing about this card. In the matchups where you probably will take some damage, this may draw you cards for free. Which will not only be great but also cancel out a card or effect from the corp. Love it.

Netrunner - High Risk Investment

Well holy-moly money in the bank. If you manage to score just one of these against a runner that likes to keep his money high. It will be awesome for you as the corp. You can even save it to make it a rough choice for the runner, should they use Account Siphon? And when they do, they have to have a sweet plan to waste as much resources as possible that very turn. Or you know, just score if after they stole plenty of money or have a huge stash of cash and mimic it.

So as soon as your opponent decides to do something, you do 1 ”damage” to him. Wow. Really? That’s just great, and if the runner does not play any currents, this will be a overall game changing card.

The main reason I think these will see play is because a corp player can only have so much ice, and can only afford so much ice. Kill of the some of the most important ones and you will screw with their plans a plenty.

Netrunner News – SanSan Cycle – Chrome City – A few new cards!

Hello everyone.

Here we are to look at a few new cards from the third pack in the SanSan cycle, let’s see if they look any good.

Okay so I just want to being by saying: I truly never think taking brain damage is worth it, not for any kind of effect (well unless you win the game but this wont win the game on the spot). Even tho you lose 1card in hand size, you gain 3. So basicly… you gain 2 when it’s all said and done. I’m in general not a big fan of a card that gives you a bigger handsize, it doesn’t give you an advantage in it’s own right and sure it can build up for other kinds of combos, but I’m not really sure there is any kind of combo in the game that needs this card that’s worth it. We even have a resource card in the game at the moment that gives us the same effect (but is not being played anywhere important as far as I know) and that is Public Sympathy. A nay for me.

If we just ignore the damage part of this card which I think you actually should… more or less. This is a card that makes plenty of the standard Ice Breakers alot better (Yog.0 for example that can’t naturally be buffed). But that also of course depends on the ice your facing and if you’re often one strength of from being able to interact with the ice. Getting that one extra strength to brake through somewhat stronger ice can be a game changer at times. This card even saves you money the longer you have it on the field and the bigger need you have to buff your cards.

You want to put this card in your deck just to make a few other cards better. No, not wasting card space, resources or time on that.

I’ve put all these cards up at the same time and the in same text cause I just love to see them as a unit. Each card in itself has a pretty good effect and they mix and match incredibly well to create a strong game plan.

The new identity may not look like much, but in a way it automaticly puts 1 brain damage on the runner at the beinning of the game. Which is awesome and also very strong against Andromeda if she can’t get plenty of cards out on the first turn (yea the chances of that happening is low… but still).

Then we have the Agenda that ALSO acts like a brain damage, working great in combination with the identity and the new card Ryon Knight which just seems… incredibly good. Mixing it with some ice that forces your opponents to spend clicks is now great. As a Runner you will have to think about what will happen if Ryon is at a certain location. Thinking about if they have to stop after spending a few clicks and at the same time if you’ve put in resources to make a run… you will want to complete it. Right?

In general I just love the gameplan of lowering your opponents hand with cards that are not in themself horrible. I can definatly see myself trying out a HB deck once this pack is out.

Collectible games – Pt.2 – Things to think about when starting

Hello Nurlings!

Something I need to start with: it can be expensive! It all depends on what you’re going to play, how much money you WANT to put into it and what the reason you have to play it. If you’re playing for fun with friends, the cost shouldn’t get out of hand, but if you wish to go to tournaments and do well at them, the cost may go up.

So a few things to remember are listed below, most of them are written with Trading Card gamers in mind, but I bet you can still find some useful tips.

It takes time.
Trust me this may not sound like a problem. Obviously you want your hobby or game to last for a long time and collectible games do that. You usually stick with them for a long time if you actually like them; the problem is not the time it takes to play, but the time it takes you to get where you want to be. For example, if you want to make one big awesome Warhammer army, it will take time to assemble that army, paint it and for some of us: just getting all those miniatures. If you’re prepared to be invested, you should do fine.

YOU must enjoy it.
This is not only about the game itself. When playing a game where you can go many different paths with your collection, you should ALWAYS stay true to yourself. If you like something within a game that people don’t consider fun or cool but you do, then stick with it. You should always do what you consider fun and never feel bad/weird about changing opinion on that.

You may start out thinking that a certain type of a deck in a card game or an army in a miniature game is awesome. And then through testing and experience find out that it wasn’t for you, then switch it up! Sell your older things and get new stuff that you enjoy instead, there is nothing wrong with that.

Where and when do you want to play?
This may not seem important, but where and when can change how you work out your hobby. Do you only play once every month with a few friends? Do you go to a gaming store and play tournaments and meet new people? If you do indeed play at home with buddies, you may not always need to get the best stuff for your Magic The Gathering deck or Warhammer army. As long as you and the people you play with have equally much fun, you should get along with playing what you want and how you want.

If you instead tend to go out and play with new people and play at tournaments and other events. You may want to learn how that feels first, make a small inexpensive start with the game. Try it out with new people; see if you actually enjoy the game mixed with that crowd. Some hobbies like Trading Card Gaming can be somewhat hard to get into at first, but once you get to know the people you will see that they’re mostly awesome.

It may end up… costing you.
Yup, as I said earlier, these kind of hobbies CAN be very expensive. But it’s an expense that you may not actually see. When you buy products you may think that it’s not a big deal, but much like smoking and other unhealthy habits you may find that all these small costs become a huge sum in the end.

Be smart with your buying, get things you KNOW you need instead of buying things that you THINK you need. When getting new things for your game, plan the buying before you actually do it. This way you will see ahead of time how much it will cost you and lets you think about, instead of impulse buying new things all the time.

Trade
This is true for the Trading Card Game player, even if your collection starts small you will surely have a few cards that other people are interested in. Keep a track of card values through websites and Ebay and do smart trading where you get the most value. This way you can trade yourself up and get better and better cards. This may take some time if you only have a small gaming group in your area, but I promise you that it’s worth it.

Collectible games – Pt.1 – What is it?

Being a nerd has never been as popular as it is right now, several different subcultures today are proud to be nerds or gamers. Just like many other trends tend to come and go, gaming and nerd culture seems to simply rise in popularity every year that passes.

You may see it as a trend like anything else, and for some people I bet that’s the case. But it’s also one of those things that make people stick with it. The gaming culture is easiest to compare to a sport like soccer/football, if you’re interested and enjoy it, you always will be. Unless of course some outside force changes this, much like soccer hooligans scare people away from club matches… and that is understandable but even then I still believe that you love the game.

If you’re a gamer that LOVES to play analog games (board-,card-, miniature games) much like myself. You will see that many of these are becoming collectible games. I thought I would talk about this today! What a collectible game is, what it means to you, and how you can handle being a part of a hobby that may never stop growing. This is certainly true for popular card games like Magic the Gathering and miniature games like Warhammer.

Because of the collectible element to these games, they also tend to have tournaments. Different options within the game makes it exciting to compete in. Different components may require different set of skills, and, who did put the best mix together?

What is a collectible game?
A collectible game is simply a game where you collect components. For an example on the opposite of a collectable game: if you buy a Monopoly game (don’t know why you would…) you get all the pieces needed to play the game right out of the box, and there are not many products you can buy to customize that game. … Well maybe some flashier dice.

A collectible game, unlike boxed ready to go games, tends to come with different starters/intro packs instead. These starters tend to give you all the necessary rules to play the game and enough components to try it. From there you can buy new components to the game to make it bigger (yours!). In collectible card games for example you buy new cards and packs to build new decks, decks that you play with against other players that are doing the same as you.

Different kind of collectible games?
So here is a short list of collectible type games, if I missed any or you feel that one or more doesn’t really fit here. Please let me know in a comment.

Collectible Card Game / Trading Card Game (CCG /TCG)
These are probably the most common games from the genre of collectible games. A TCG game is all about collecting cards. You use these cards to build your own deck within the game to compete and play with others. The cards are distributed randomly through Booster Packs (a pack with about 10 to 15 random cards). Also you can usually buy starters and decks that follow a fixed list. These are usually not good enough if you want to try playing in a tournament.

World of Warcraft TCG

Living Card Game (aka. LCG)
Unlike TCG games (above) Living Card Games uses fixed set of cards. There is a base set for the game where you get enough cards to build between 2 and 4 decks to play with. Then you can buy new packs of about 20 to 50 fixed cards that let you customize your own decks in the game. Not as big when it comes to tournaments but can still be competitive among friends. Living Card Games are almost exclusively done by Fantasy Flight Gaming(?).

Miniature Game
Another very popular genre within collectible games. Miniature gaming has always seemed to be considered nerdier than other collectible games. This is probably because of the hobby section of the game where you assemble, paint and work on small miniatures (which can easily be considered toys). Here instead of cards, you collect different miniatures in the form of heroes, units and vehicles that makes your armies, crews and factions.

Deck building Game
In a deck building game, instead of building your deck before the game starts like in a TCG, you instead build your deck during the game. You usually buy a complete game to start with, and then you can buy expansions with plenty of new cards to add. This is not actually a collectible game in the same way as the others. But most often, these games tend to get soooo many expansions that it becomes a collectible game.

Be aware that there are a few board games out there that have collectible parts as well, Carcassonne for example has a huge amount of expansions and could easily be called a collectible game.
