I’m aware that this recording is VEEERY long, but we talked about every single card and we may have spent a bit to much talking about the early bad cards just to rush through them towards the end.

Blizzard just announced some awesome news for Hearthstone. They will finally give us a singleplayer like experience with a dungeon like mode within Hearhstone.
Tho the news I feel is most important to me as a constructed player (with hardly any money) is to see what the 30 new cards will be. It’s fun to see the new commons and rares that we can add to our cheap decks. And the five that has been shown so far (I was really close on the spider egg effect btw!) seems interesting enough.
Back to the event part:
The whole thing is a single-player experience within HS, you play through “five wings” and at each level you face bosses, challenges and unlock cards for your collection. Sounds sweet! I thought… until I read that beyond the first wing you will actually have to pay to enter the next stage (with gold or real money), and this kinda makes my eye twitch a little bit. I don’t mind if the gold price Is fairly costed (the same cost of a arena run would be fine with me), but anything that seems way to high for casual players would just make me irritated.
I know you want to make money, but please give the poor players a fair chance to experience this as well!

Now let’s move on to comment the cards!
So we don’t know about all the new Deathrattle cards that will be coming out so it’s kinda hard to say if this card is “good” or not. I would say that it’s okay at the moment. Every other Deathrattle card basicly gets a Shattered Sun Cleric battlecry attached to them (well for this card). And there are a few that already see play and are actually played in the earlier turns. Once again, not sure if that makes it worht this card for a chance of pumping it up. You probably want to play a card that makes sure you get some value. Hard to say at the moment tho, will be interesting to see if people try this card out.
Okay I love this card! So the place I already see it in, is the Miracle Rogue deck. Being able to play a card turn 3 that have stealth built in that will grow every turn after that? Yes please! Seems to be a very strong card for that deck and maybe even for other decks depending on how long they want to stay in the game. Remember tho that Miracle Rogue is not the strongest deck in the game exactly but it’s fun to see a new card that works for that deck.
This card is interesting. I was very close on my guess on this cards effect, I was right on the deathrattle and what kind of effect it would have (tho I guessed a 5/5). But I was also hoping for the card to have built in Taunt, to make it hard for your opponent to decide if he wants to attack for a turn or not. You can still give it taunt with other cards of course, or give it attack so that you can trade it with another minion and get the spider out on the field. The card gives some great value when it creates a 5/5 in a trading situations, and even giving it taunt will create strong situations for you. Your opponent dont want to attack it unless they can handle the 5/5 with what they have available to them, but not attacking it would also mean one or two wasted turns (depending on the gameplan of the deck of course). I do believe it’s a strong card, but at the same time I think it’s hard to find a great place for it right now. Is it a better Taunt card than Ancient Watcher? Maybe.
You get a cheap big creature, and it may be worth it if they waste 2+ cards on it. Most of the time they wont. So. Yea. No. The problem is that you lose the card AND your opponent gains a card. Even if he trades 1for1, he still replaces the card he used and you get nothing from it. Don’t like him. Rather play Harvest Golem turn 3 that gives me a similar situation instead of him, or even a Yeti on turn 4.
It’s lacking the attack, but triggering Deathrattle on your minions twice? It’s pretty good actually! He’s cheaply costed enough to make it worth while as well, you get 2 minions from Harvest Golem, you draw 2 cards from Loor Hoarder, Leper Gnome deals 4 damage, Sylvanas Windrunnes takes 2 minions, Carine Bloodhoof gives you 2 minions. Spider Egg gives you two minions. Yea. Seems to be fine when the value is there!
Can’t wait to see what more they will bring to the game, and I’m excited to see how it will change the meta game and decks being played. COME ON PRIEST!

Okay, let’s put this straight, as a huge fan of and long time card gamer I’ve learned through the years how to act around card games. What to say, what not to say, how you fake cards & hands (even tho I’m horrible at it), but the most important lesson is how we treat eachother. Trading Card Games has always been a very social hobby and game form. And because of that we need to know how to treat eachother to make everyone feel welcome and enjoying the game!
So, why are Hearthstone players so bad at understanding when it’s approperiate to say ”Well Played” and when not to? This blog entry is about how we can use the ingame emotes as a proper communication tool (and how not to), but also how to use them to mindgame your opponent.
“Well Played” aka. The handshake
This is the one that we all “need” to learn how to use properley. Mostly it’s right now used to taunt your opponent when your just about to win by hitting them with lethal, this is just horribly bad manners. Let’s go back to the IRL card games and how tournaments work there. If you win a match against your opponent no matter how good or bad or excellent the win was, you always wait for your opponent to stretch out their hand for a handshake. It’s up to them to decide if they want to do that. Why?
Becuase imagine this, you’ve just won the final in a tournament, the game itself wasn’t even close. You beat down your opponent, he never had a chance with the cards he drew and you pull of a quick and decicive win. Directly after this you smile happily about the win and try to shake your opponents hand. Seems nice right? No. On the other side of the table you have a person that may feel beaten down, defeated and humiliated and as he look up from the table he can see your smiling face and stretched out hand, would you shake it joyfully or would it feel like he’s adding insult to injury?
So in the future let’s try and use the “Well Played” emote the way it’s supposed to be used.
How to use “Well played.”
When you lose and want to gratulate the opponent.
When your opponent actually pulls of a good combination of actions that is indeed impressive.
How not to use “Well played.”
When you’re the winning player.
When your opponent uses the “Oops” emote.
The mindgame of “Well Played”:
If you use the “Well Played” emote before you actually have lost the game and you see that your opponent have exactly lethal on the board, he may actually notice is just because you said “Well Played.” His first thought may have been to try and kill your big minions to defend himself instead of actually killing you, not saying “Well Played” before it’s actually over can actually save you a few games of losses. This may not sound important, but trust me, people miss lethal more often then you think.
“Thanks.” aka. You suck
To say thanks is to show appretiation for a positive comment directed at you, in most cases. In Hearthstone you use it to taunt your opponent when they do a play that will favor you on your turn. It’s not quite as bad as the “Well Played” when you win manoveur, but I would say it’s still heavily frowned upon. To say “Thanks” just because your opponent makes an error they’re not aware of is kinda pointless. Just be happy to know that you’re now able to pull of some advanteges from their misshap. Oh, and of course remember that when you say “Thanks” and they end up acutally answering your play because they thought you had a certain card in your hand and they accounted for it… well. Karma.
How to use “Thanks.”
Say thanks when your opponent says “Well Played” because of a cool/good play you did.
Actually that’s about it.
How to not use “Thanks.”
In a taunting way when you believe that your opponent maid the wrong play.
The mindgame of “Thanks”
To quite honest there arent a lot of situations where you can use this effectily in HS, because there is a lack of interaction inbetween you and your opponent during one single turn, you basicly observe and hope for the best outcome. Secretss is really the only way to mindgame with “Thanks.” Let’s say your opponent makes a play that is actually quite strong, but in the situation you see that a certain secret would be a perfect answer, but you don’t have that particular secret in hand. Say “Thanks” and play the secret as soon as it’s your turn, this may create a situation where your opponent plays badly to get around a certain secret. For this interaction to work you will have to know about the deck your facing, what kinds of cards it usualy plays and how they usualy react to a certain the secret. On a case to case basis you will have to decide how worth it is to set the “wrong” secret just to fool them.
And of course, your opponent actually has to know about the secrets to make it valid.
(PS. Honestly you don’t have to say thanks to create this kind of dilemma for your opponent when you play secrets. 🙂 )
“Oops” aka. Did I do that?
The “Oops” emote can be used whenver you want since it’s a emote to show your mistakes, not your opponents (“Thanks” is usualy used for that).
Also the “Oops” emote is really the only emote that you can use for mindgames. This really works in a similar manner to the mindgame of “Thanks”, you do a series of plays and you follow it up with a moment of thinking and looking through your cards, followed by “Oops”, by doing this you can create a situation where your opponent believes you have made an error tho you actually have not. This way your opponent may use his/hers turn to go all offensive instead of defensive, which may set up a next turn win for you.
Of course it’s always hard to say if it was correct or not until your opponent plays thorugh their turn. Once again it’s important to know about the decks and cards that are popular at the moment. This way it’s easier to know if your plays are correct and strong or just weak.

Let’s be honest, you didn’t mean to kill that minion when you played “Demonfire”.

When you say a greeting your opponent may instantly be effected by their invert side and leave the game.
How not to use “Sorry.”
Many use the “Sorry” emote in a similar way as the “Well Played” emote, dont use it when you’re about to win. It’s just bad manners.

The only thing I can really see on this is if you use it once or twice during your opponents turn when they’ve played a card to make them uncertain of their action. Most usefull if you have a secret, “Sorry that my secret is just the secret I need right now to kill you.”
Side note: Is kinda fun how the ingame “Threaten” emote is the least threatening/annoying one. I actually find it kinda fun.

As long as you don’t spam it, I don’t mind the roleplaying.

Time to look at another Kickstarter project! And it’s a game of course like always when I check out Kickstarter. Okay sometimes I do look at other nerdy things, but really, the game part is the most interesting for me personally.
So today we’re looking at a CCG named Orbs.

Okay so moving on!
There are a few things that I’m really looking forward to with Orbs CCG. One, is that it’s using my favorite mechanic from the Yu Gi Oh TCG: face down cards. This indicates that you have something to ruin your opponents day during his turn, and you can even bluff to make your opponent uncertain about his/her plays. It’s one of the best mechanics in Yu Gi Oh cause it creates a situation where the more knowledge you have about the game and play styles, the easier it is to see through the bluffs and play around it.
Secondly, much like the Scrolls online card game, they are using a energy resource system where you discard cards to get resources, this stops you from having the issue of something called “mana-screw” in MTG. Which means that you don’t have the resources needed to play the cards in your hand. Something that should always be prevented in card games, even tho it’s a big part of MTG, it’s probably one of the few things that could have been done better with the game from the beginning.
And my third and favorite feature of the game; you can take turns overtime. There are currently two ways of playing the game, one is to play in real-time against your opponent, the other is that you and your opponent take turns over time, you get a notification when your opponent is done, and you can take your turn whenever you wish, and then he will get a notification when you’re done and so on. Very much like playing word-puzzle games on your phone.
The one thing that worries me about the capability of playing like this, is the fact that you don’t have to be a active player to respond to your opponent. So your traps seems more like triggers that will happen even if you don’t want them to. Which means bluffing becomes a bit harder when you can’t think about your responses. Instead the game makes them for you at appropriate time (probably).
But many online card games are actually lacking in the instant-respons area. So it’s nothing we should worry about at the moment. The game play can still be awesome and fun! The last thing that I feel I have to mention: I hope the overall visual design gets worked on a bit more. Yes I’m a horrible person and I actually buy boardgames/cardgames from a “wow this looks cool” reaction…

I know my ”almost a review” is still not out for this game but I’m still going to post news about it, and you can do nothing to stop me! Mohahaaha! So anyway, three new Scrolls have been released and I thought we would take a look at them.
Okay so this guy is a bit iffy, the effect is very strong in the right deck but I’m not sure if there is a spot for him yet. He could work well in the 3-color control decks where he would give you resources + a guy, which in some cases would be better than a Memorial. If you’re facing duo decks you can even get some awesome value from this guy.
You won’t play him in pure Growth decks tho, his stats are ”okay” but they are nothing you really need in the Growth decks in the moment. If you face an opponent that’s not any of your colors he’s really not worth the space in the deck.
But the more popular multicolor decks gets this guy will get better, and if you play one yourself let me know how he works out for you. I will be trying him in my 3-color deck and will report on my success!
The reason this card exists, is so that you wont have to discard for resources in Order/Energy decks. Instead you can play this and sac a card for two cards, that way you get your resource for the turn + new cards in your hand. It can also be used to push your damage that one extra step if needed.
I’m not sure how this card mixes with Iron Ogre if you get +1 Energy for EACH unit he manages to kill or just the first one, aka: a static ability that only trigger once. I’ve seen a few Energy / Order decks out there and I can defiantly see this card being used as a ramp card (ramping = working up your resources faster than 1 each turn) especially since Energy want to have a great amount of resources towards the end game.
This way it’s easier for them to work out their combos and kill of units and Idols… FAST.
I LOVE THIS GUY. Maybe he will be overrated, maybe he will not do as much work as I think he will, but every single burn spell just got better in Energy. Use a Spark to get a creatures health down and let this guy finish him of. Mixing this guy with Concentrated Fire also clears up week units fast. This will be a definite include in any Energy deck that focus on Ranged units.
Rememeber tho, his ability on works on CREATURES so Walls and Structures can stop him in his tracks.
Time to change our Energy decks. 🙂

So it’s finally time for some non-MTG-related news again, how about that? Awesome I know! So you may have heard of this game known as Minecraft (created by a well known man called Notch). You may also known that the company that stands behind the game is known as Mojang. Well Mojang is working on a completely new title called: Scrolls.
If you heard about the game from before, it may be that you heard about their fight over the name with Bethesda. Creators of the game: Elder SCROLLS V: Skyrim. Yup they wanted to be exclusive with the scrolls part of the name and took Mojang to court. Scrolls is a game that’s been in a closed beta for a long time, but NOW on June 3d the game is going in to open beta! Which means that everyone can get a piece of the action. I will be looking in to the game as soon as a download button appears and you’re welcome back to read a review and even watch me live stream the game (if allowed) after the 3d.
The game itself is a mix of a collectable card (scrolls) game where you collect, buy and trade scrolls with other players. These scrolls are then used to create decks that you use to fight your opponent. The design of the playing-field reminds you a lot of the old Heroes of Might & Magic games, where you use unit position and magic to beat your opponent. The details on how the game is played and such will be up as soon as I try the game out.
