Casual Gamers: The Noobs & Outcasts [Part 1 -ish?]

(Everything written in the following post is based on personal opinions and ideas and I’m in no way saying that I’m correct unless I have a study or fact to follow it up. Enjoy. 🙂 )

Hello Nurglings.

It’s time to discuss something other than card games, I know, how can you do this Nurgle, I thought I know you, are you not a cardgame guru (well we know I’m not that), are you running away from your cardgame coverage (no no of course not).

I just wanted to discuss a important word today.

So you call me noob

So after reading that word, what did you first think of? Did you sigh and cringe after thinking of all the people you play with that simply suck at “the game” and drags your team down. Or have you experienced it called out at you over and over when you’re simply not doing that well? No matter how you relate to this word, it’s something that has become way to common in gaming.

Gaming has never been as big as it is now as a entertainment outlet and competitive scene. We have game streaming and YouTube which have created a huge field for gamers to share their skill (or lack of), commentary and funny moments in gaming. I love the fact that gaming is becoming more social than ever, and the fact that it’s so easy to share gaming moments in a way that we could just do in our living rooms before, is amazing.

We also have the great expanding field of E-sports. I’m a huge fan and supporter (in my head at least) of E-sports and even tho I am a supporter I also have a huge fear when it comes to a growing public interest. Cause, I’m not sure if we as observers of E-sports are growing as fast the sport itself.

At least not when I see the word: NOOB.

A huge problem I have with online gaming these days is the fact that it’s taken very serious. As we see pro teams and players do their best in their matches and practice games we want to be able to do the same. I bet that you very much like me watched a pro game just to immediately enter that very same game that they were playing with the idea: “I want to get better!”

Then we get online, we play a game, and lose terribly, your supporting players are not supporting, the team communication is horrible… and what is that I see? Russian in the chat? We’ve all been there and it happens. After building up to such a climax of wanting to become better it can’t be irritating to play with players with a different mind and/or skill-set. And suddenly the game has turned in to a chat room where people are calling out the lacking skills of players around them. This is nothing rare in online gaming, sadly.

We need to grow as a community, and with that I mean that we need to understand that gaming now is HUGE, and you wont always play with people that have the same idea of what fun is. In games like League of Legends, Star Craft, Counter Strike and others, there will always be a huge fan base of casual players. They don’t really care if they win or lose, they play the champions, do the builds and play the roles that they WANT to play. They are there for the fun of the game.

So… what’s the problem?

The problem is the fact that online bullying is becoming a huge part of our everyday online gaming. And you may say that the casual players should blame themselves, that they put themselves in the situation where they can be called noobs, that THEY decided to log in, THEY decided to play, THEY… didn’t do anything wrong. No matter how provoking a persons play style or skill may be to you, YOU are NEVER in a seat where you lash out on a person. I will be honest that I just as anyone else that want’s to be a better game in competitive games have been disappointed and raged at people that play worse. But I always try and keep it to myself and not call it out in chat, I have no reason to do so. And usually, as soon as the game is over, I don’t remember the players name or what he did that specific game later. So I really don’t need to pull him down just because I rage.

There is no noob

Casual gamers exist…

…we need to realize this, in the past I’ve had long discussions about casual gamers. How they should be more accepted as gamers then they are now. They are a HUGE part of the gaming community, probably much larger than the field of people that have gaming as a hobby or even lifestyle. We need to embrace this.

I feel like I’ve babbled enough for one post, I will do a follow up eventually. With that I will follow up on some lose ends in this post and maybe even answer on any (if any) comments. but I believe this is enough reading for you right now. 🙂

Until next time Nurglings, take care.

Video message to all the interested writers!

Hello Nurglings!
And… hello writers!

So I’ve gotten a few answers to the post yesterday, I haven’t sent out any emails to you guys yet but I thought I would start with sharing this little info/hello video from me to you. 🙂

Until next time Nurglings, take care.

Looking for writers! Let’s start a community/network!

Hello Nurglings!

A long time ago, I asked if there was anyone out there that would like to write for this blog. At the time I didn’t get that many readers and the ones that did come on here often probably weren’t bloggers themselves. But now the number of readers has been going up steadily (yay!). So I thought I would give this another chance. This time with a little more proper request.

What am I looking for?
– Anyone is welcome to leave a message here and tell me you’re interested! It doesn’t matter what gender, how old, or where you’re from. Just enjoy writing!

– You love games and gaming

– You love writing about games and gaming!

– If you already have a blog where you write regularly that is great!

– I’d love to see people that interested in any of the following; Card Gaming in general, YuGiOh, Miniature Gaming, nerdy things, “life of a gamer” issues/thoughts and ideas.

Something that’s important for you to know is that I’m not looking to steal time from your blog writing, if you have something that you’re posting on your blog that is interesting for gaming nerds I will simply share it on my blog as well. Sure I’d love to see you write something specific that would fit on here but it’s not a requirement.

What do I as a guest writer get out of this?
– Info/PR for you and your own blog! I will make a page specially for anyone that wants to share their writing on here. There you can write a small presentation on you with a link to your own blog! (Presentation is of course optional).

– Be a part of a bigger community. If this goes well, and we get a few bloggers together, there is no end to what this could become. Next step may be a website, YouTube and Twitter account under a collaboration name.

– This is a thing that’s supposed to be FUN! Always remember that.

What is this project?
– The whole idea with this project is to create a small community with writers/gamers and hobbyist that LOVE to share their thoughts on different subjects in gaming.

– This blog will be a spring board to share our articles and thoughts to work our way up in the blogging world.

– Together we can do great things!

– Most importantly, this project is supposed to be FUN. Not a goldmine, not a publicity stunt for anyone, but a fun project with an evolving community and goal.

So what are you waiting for? Already have something that you feel would be worth sharing? Leave me a message!
And if you have any questions? Leave me a message!

Until next time Nurglings, take care.

New Pages – Coming Soon!

Hello Nurglings!

Yea as it says above, new pages are coming up! Well, you know, pages on this blog? I bet most of you don’t click on them to often but I thought I would a about me page and a page with images of all my miniatures from different miniature games. Here is a preview of a few images (some of them you’ve already seen).

I may also add an “archive page” for all the deck lists that I’ve posted on here so that you can just click a link and get right to it!
So that’s what I’m working on right now, also want to do some video content for my YouTube, so I’m trying to figure out what I should do with that.

Until next time Nurglings, take care.

Nurgle Update – January 14th 2012

Hello my Nurglings!

The ones of you that stick around know that I do short updates at times, about me, about the blog, about several different things. Usually I promise future content, but I know that promising stuff for a blog is a bad idea if I’m not already working on it. Why? Cause it may just not happen. Like saying that you will review a game but you haven’t it played it yet. It’s just a bad idea.

Today is also the pre-release of the new Yu Gi Oh set: Order of Chaos. The Yu Gi Oh TCG is sadly a game that I’ve been pulled further and further apart from. Why? Well once you take a longer pause from Yu Gi Oh there’s a big investment to be made to get into the game again. The game is just too expensive for me to get back into right now. I can afford it, but it’s hard when I also want to continue playing Magic The Gathering and other games.

When on the subject of Magic, I just want to say: I know there is a lot of Magic going on right now on the blog. But a new set is coming out and there’s a lot to be said about it and its spoilers. Wizard of the Coast really knows how to build the hype for new sets. And I just love the whole horror theme of the Innistrad block, so it’s hard for me to hold back when they reveal new awesome cards flavored by horror.

That’s long enough of an update wasn’t it?
Also: thanks to all the new followers, subscribers and likes! You’re the ones that makes me want to keep going.

Until next time Nurglings, take care.

Hello Nurglings!

Hello my Nurglings!

It’s been awhile now, and it’s mostly because of the holidays, nothing happens and everything happens at the same time. Many sites that usually release plenty of news takes a hold and one is busy with family and shopping.

I hope you all had a great Christmas out there no matter where you live in the world and that you received some sweet gifts, and if you did not get any gifts. I hope you had a calm and sweet time for some soul searching.

All I wanted to say really is that the blog is back in business now for a few days until a short break around new years. So, cya soon Nurglings.

Until next time, take care!

7 Decks, 7 Games, 7 Days – Pika Pika Friends (Pokémon TCG)

Yes sir i did it! The “Pika Pika Friends” deck is finished. I’m not really sure what to say about it, I tried to make it soooomewheat competitive while still adding stuff that I just love. Yanmega Prime, is card that I’ve been wanting to build a deck with since I first saw him, but he is one of the most popular cards in the format right now making him kind of expensive.

Raichu is one of my favorite Pokémon, not competitive but cute and cuddly and does 100 damage to the face of an opponent!

You know, I’m not going to explain the idea of this deck, it’s a Pokémon deck with little strategy, get your Pokémon out and do the cheap and strong attacks to beat your opponent down.

Pokémon: 25
4-4 Yanmega
4-4 Raichu
3-3 Zoroark
2x Tyrogue
1x Cleffa

4x Pokemon Comunication
4x Energy Search
4x Energy Retrieval
2x Pokemon Circulator

Supporter: 8
4x Copycat
2x Seeker
1x Twins
1x Judge

Energy: 13
1x Rescue Energy
4x Double Collorless
8x Lightning Energy

Until next time, ZZZZZAAP!

Cya Son!

To discuss this:

Long day yesterday – #FNM today

Hello everyone!

I know you were ”all” expecting the new the 777 deck. The Pokémon one to be exact, but I was out so long yesterday that I just didn’t have the time when I got back home. I’m working on it though and it will be coming so don’t worry about it! Really, I promise!

Anyway, today I’m going to play my mono red deck that I posted like a week ago, it’s all about that quick win and the late game plan doesn’t exist. I hope to do okay with it and in the honor of my girl I hope that I will get myself that John Avon FNM Cultivate. I want it so, so, so, so, so, so much!

Just look at it;

Until next time, take care!

Cya Soon.

Thoughts. Webshop. Nurgle.

Should I open up a webshop? Something simple with plenty and plenty of products so that I at least can live and knowing that I’m doing something that I want to do?

Sadly the store wouldn’t be called Nurgle’s Place because of Games Workshops copyright on that name “Nurgle”. Maybe I could contact them about it and see what they say. Probably a big fat no or no answer at all. I know where to find the distributors, I know how to handle a web shop, I have contacts that can design an awesome website, I live on the edge when it comes to how much money I have every month as it is, and I would get financial help the first three months.

Maybe I should try it, maybe I should. The ones of you that know me out there in the real life are probably asking: Weren’t you going to open a store in Gothenburg. I was, but I backed out from it. Why? There are already 4-5 stores/hobby shops that sell the products we were going to sell. There is still only one here though that has their store open to gamers to use their gaming tables and so on. But it felt full, and the money aspect of opening up a physical store was just scary.

So new plan, new idea, and this time a simple one that won’t cost me a fortune, what do you think? Webshop? Yes? No?

What else is happening today. A new 777 deck will be posted later today, actually a lot later because I’m going out to hang with some friends, post some cards and doing some videos for this blog. I also need to put up the next weeks auctions this evening to get some more cards sold. You know what, if I do open up a webshop my auctions could be like a commercial thing for that, putting up some info with the auctions and a link.

Oh well, until next time, take care and remember to smile!
