5 cards from Avacyn Restored – spoiler from PAX (Two new mechanics!)

Hello Nurglings!

(Eight more cards right here: https://nurgleprobe.wordpress.com/2012/04/09/avacyn-restored-spoiler-8-new-cards-griselbrand-included/ )

Guess what, five cards from Avacyn Restored has been given out to us at PAX. This is just awesome isn’t it? It’s 2am as I write this so my mind isn’t ready to give a in-depth of what I think of these cards yet, except for one thing: They are awesome!

The first card is the following:

Restoration Angel – 3W
Creature – Angel
Flash, Flying
When Restoration Angel enters the battlefield, you may exile target non-angel creature you control then return that creature to the battlefield under your control.
3/4

So you’re thinking, what can this angel do? Well she is a great spell to protect your creatures from removal. You can also do block-tricks with her, both these things are awesome for limited, and she will be used for sure! I mean, a 3/4 body with flash and flying is never bad, and adding an effect to it… well it’s just never bad. And hell, enter the battlefield triggers, reset undying creatures, blink your snapcasters…. yea. She’s insane.

Sigarda, Host of Herons – 2GWW
Legendary Creature – Angel
Flying, Hexproof
Spells and abilities your opponents control can’t cause you to sacrifice permanents
5/5

Excuse me? Did I hear a 5/5 Flyer with hexproof for five mana? Did I just hear that, in Green/White? I love this card! It’s a sweet artwork, she has a competitive cost and the best way to kill her is WoG effects and clones. Oh and you can play her as your EDH commander if you fancy. I will be talking more about this card and the other angels once more of them appear.

Demonlord of Ashmouth – 2BB
Creature – Demon
Flying, Undying,
When Demonlord of Ashmouth enters the battlefield, exile it unless you sacrifice a creature.
5/4

Wow, I always love these type of aggressive black creatures. They never seem to find a good place to see play because their negative effects drag them down. But this one may actually make it past that barrier. You still have to have at least two creatues on the field (or knowing your opponents hand / your opponent have no mana) but it feels just good enough. Oh… when it comes back you have to sacrifice a creature. Never mind, it’s to easily controlled by your opponent. Maybe in a B/W token deck though.

Thunderous Wrath – 4RR
Instant
Thunderous Wrath deals 5 damage to target creature or player.
Miracle – R (You may cast this card for its Miracle cost when you draw it if it’s the first card you drew this turn)

Okay so, this just feels like an insane card for aggressive or controlling decks that can change the top of their decks around. This way you can make sure you draw it next turn (with like Ponder) and you can do some nasty things. Observe that it says THIS turn, and not on your turn, so you can play cards like think twice, draw in to it on their turn, and play it for a single red mana. 5 damage at the end of your opponents turn doesn’t sound bad to me.

Miracle sounds like an insane mechanic and I will be talking more about it soon!

Silverblade Paladin – 1WW,
Creature – Human Knight
Soulbond (You may pair this creature with another unpaired creature when either enters the battlefield. They remain paired as long as you control both of them).
As long as Silverblade Paladin is paired with another creature, both creatures have double strike.
2/2

I’m not really sure I like this particular card, but the mechanic seems kind of fun. I really want to know which directions they took with it and what the different Soulbond effects do. Feels very white and I always like me some double strike. I may have preferred it at the cost of WW and it being First Strike, but as a limited card I say yes please.

This was just a quick look at the cards spoiled so far, stay tuned for more about the new mechanics and cards!

Until next time Nurglings, take care.

Venser Vs Koth – Alternate Arts

Hello Nurglings!

So to be completely honest, I’m glad that Venser looks awesome! The rest of the cards don’t really appeal to me that much, sure people wanted a new art for Anger and that is indeed the second best alternate artwork after Venser (Koth takes the third spot).

Well now you’ve seen them.

Until next time Nurglings, take care.

Nurgle Update – Zombie miniature game rules?

Hello my Nurglings!

If you did not know, I’m one huge zombie-fan. Not as huge as some, I don’t go all out zombie all the time, but I love things related to zombies. Games, books, comics and my favorite mission in Star Craft 2 – the missions when the mutants (zombies) come attack your base at night.

You got to love things like that.

Anyway! I’ve been working on a set of rules for a Zombie Apocalypse miniature game, with character cards and what not. If I can get a rulebook done, do you want me to share it with you guys? Either I try and publish it by myself and do a print on demand style book + a simple free PDF version. Or I just, let it out there for everyone to use, that people can comment and suggest rule changes on. I will be doing an Alpha set of rules just for that purpose though. So we’ll see.

Oh well, for now a first draft of a Character card. Enjoy.

Until next time Nurglings, take care.

U/B Zombies Vs. B/R Vampires

Hello my Nurglings!

Welcome back to a new day, with a proper post that won’t make me sound all depressed. The fact is you see… I’m not. It was just something that I was thinking about. So anywaaaaay.

Today I’m going back into my head in another way, what freakin’ deck do I want to build in standard? I was working on the Esper Spirit deck for awhile that Finkel played during PT Dark Ascension. But quickly I noticed that EVERYONE wanted to do that deck so I thought… hell no! I’m going to do something else.

The two decks that I’ve been thinking about since ever (if you followed me you know) is R/B Vampires or U/B Zombies. I even posted a Vampire deck on here after the release of Innistrad (go read that list here: https://nurgleprobe.wordpress.com/2011/09/16/innistrad-on-standard-aggro-vampires/ )

So anyway, the 5 reasons and thoughts for why and why not I should pick the deck.

1. Sexiness
So first we look at the sexiness, or, well, how you feel about the deck when you play it. Yea I’m a player that wants to have feelings for the deck I play. I want to play a card and FEEL that it’s the right thing for me to play, doesn’t matter if it’s a good or bad card as long as it feels right. Like casting Gravecrawler from the graveyard, or attacking with Bloodcrazed Neonate with Curse Of Stalked Prey on the field to make it grow huge. Awesome feelings are awesome!

2. Sideboard
Another very important thing about a deck it to see if the deck can sideboard well in the current format. Both decks have the options to sideboard strong black cards but then after that they differ (duh). Blue can side very counteractive cards like different counter spells and clones. While red can mostly add more board wipes like Slagstorm and artifact removal. Luckily there are several artifact and black cards that can be sided for both Vampire and Zombies.

3. Evolve
What I mean with evolve, is the possibility of the deck sticking around after the rotation in standard. Both decks use a lot of the new cards from Innistrad but they also lose some important cards with the rotation.
Zombies lose: Mana Leak, Vapor Snag, Geth’s Verdict, Mortarpod (one important card indeed), and Fume Spitter. Not that I personally will use Fume Spitter…
Vampires lose: Volt Charge, Incinerate, Child of Night and Bloodseeker.
But both decks will surley gain more cards from Avacyn Restored, question is. Which side will get the better end of the deal? Zombies got the best cards last time, so now it’s time for vampires to shine right?

4. Metagame
Depending on the local metagame the decks effectiveness will change. It feels right now as if the Zombie deck has better options to the different matchups no matter what they play, whilst the Vampire deck may end up short when facing other aggressive decks. Cause you know, the vampires are not big to start off with…

5. Records
What can I say… previous records for the decks. U/B Zombie is the only deck that has been able to top tournaments, but the reason may also be lack of vampire decks? Yea…

So important things to think about indeed. What do you think I should play? I’m guessing there will be a strong vote on vampires as always.

So until next time Nurglings, take care.

Poll of the day – Blog more about?

Hello my Nurglings!

Since the whole Card Dome idea is down for now, as you may have noticed by the blogs’ change of name (front page). I’ve been thinking about all the things I would like to blog about, recently there have been a few digital game related things that I wanted to mention but it felt wrong to put it all up here when I promised that I would blog about card games. But then again…

Until next time, take care.

Poll of the day – Most played Innistrad card in the next format?

Hello my Nurglings!

Time for a “poll of the day” that’s a biiiit tricky. I’ve sat down and looked through the Innistrad cards and I’ve made a small top 6 cards-from-Innistrad-that-I-think-will-see-most-play list. Now it’s up to you to vote for the card that you think will be played the most, it’s all for fun of course!

Until next time, take care.
