Capitalism, ho! Yea this is one of the weirdest top 10 lists I’ve done in the longest time, ignoring the fact that it was a very very long time since I did a top 10. So in the following list I will present to you, the top 10 games that I want to add to my collection (but because of reasons they’re not in it yet). Let go through the games and tiny motivations to why I have them in my top 10 list of “boardgames I want to add to my collection”.
At spot nr 10.
10. Warhammer 40k: Conquest
I’ve always been a huge fan of trading card games, but recently, I’ve decided to stop playing them and switch to LCG and other collectible games where you know the contect of the expansions (this mostly because of the huge money-sink feeling of TCGs). Conquest have the setting of one of my favorite sci-fi worlds and the gameplay appeals to me in may different ways. Planets to fight over, a joint goal from both sides and hidden movement. And being a part of a LCG in its early days is something that I would love, being able to get the new cards as they are released and learn as the game expands. Conquest together with Netrunner will be my “go to” card games from now on, thanks FFG!
This is not the most popular boardgame in the world, it’s long, have plenty of tiny rules and things to keep in your head and that may not appeal to everyone. BUT I just love how all the mechanics and gameplay creates a story for the character you’re playing. Everything is put in to the game to connect you to the story and world of Android. This universe has a huge appeal to me, and it’s not by chance that I got the other two games set in the same one.
8. Chaos in the old World
This is one of those games… when you sit down and play it, you love it. But then as soon as you leave the table, you hardly remember how the game played. You just remember everything about it feeling thematicly awesome. You play as one of the four chaos gods from the Warhammer Fantasy universe and try to corrupt the old world with your evil powers and followers. I love this game and I really do want it on my shelf. Also… my nickname is Nurgle and in this game… I can not only be called Nurgle around the table, but also PLAY Nurgle. LOVE IT.
7. Tanto Cuore: Oktoberfest
All of you out there can play your Dominions and your Thunderstones, but I will stick around with my maid game Tanto Cuore. This game is loved by both me and my girlfriend and we will never say no if it’s pulled out on to the table. This cute deckbuilder puts you in the master positions of a house that you need to hire maids for… to serve you. The art is very cutesy and even tho it puts of a LOT of players, I hav not played with a single Dominion fan that have not liked this game. Behind the manga style art there is a great deckbuilder. Do not miss out on this game just because you turn your head on the theme. Oh and Oktoberfest is the fourth release in the Tanto Cuore franchise. As soon as it’s out there I’m getting it! (Yea it’s not released yet and already on my list… hm).
6. Fury of Dracula
This is one of those games that have been asking for another print run for the longest time. Or well, people around the world have been asking for it. I’ve wanted to get Fury of Dracula for many many years, but when I finally started with my boardgame hobby, this game was already long gone and in the safe hands of board game collectors everywhere (and I don’t know a single one of them apparantly). One player takes the role as dracula moving secretley around a board while the other players takes the role of vampire hunters trying to track him down. A out of print game that I would love to get my hands on.
5. Battlestar Galactica
You may not know this but one of my favorite board games of all times is “The Resistance”, a game with secret identities where you try to figure out which players are trying to make your life harder. Battlestar Galactica is a cooperative board game where there may be players working against you. There is plenty of things happening in this game and everyturn there are situations that you and the other players have to solve. Will you make it through or is there players working against you stopping you from progressing, or is it just that you can’t complete it anyway? A great game that everyone should try. I have not yet played with the expansions but I’m looking forward to it.
4. Cosmic Encounter
I’ve played this game two times. And those two games had a huge impact on me, I love how everyone plays a race with a very distinct special power and how the gameplay is so inredibly simple. Even tho if there is a simple base to this game, everything above that is huge. You have to communicate, try and create agreements with other players, figure out when to help and when to backstab and just PLAY it. I NEED this game in my collection.
3. Mall of Horror
I’ve played the new “version” of this game called City of Horror. Sadly that new version is lacking, especially when it removed a key element of the old game: hidden voting. It was one of the best parts! You could discuss with players, make deals, but then you make that secret vote and do something completley different to what you just promised. Every player wants to stay in the game, but you can not do so by playing it alone (or by playing nice). Communicate your way to your goal and keep your survivors alive in the mall before the zombies comes a’ knockin’.
2. Dead of Winter
I love zombies. I love hidden traitors. I love discussing. I love story elments. This game put some of my favorite elements from games mentioned in this list and made a game out of it. I CAN NOT WAIT to get this game out on the table with a group of players and try to beat them down as the traitor…. you know… if I end up being the traitor. I’ve been waiting to get this game for a long time and as soon as it is back in stock in my local store I will be all over it.
1. Twilight Imperium 3
Epic. Epicness. Epic sci-fi madness. I have not yet played this game. But everytime I see a review of it, everytime I see the gameplay, everytime I feel like playing a long and epic game, Twilight Imperium 3 just pops up in my head. There is so much I think I would enjoy about this game, the space battles, diplomacy, technology, special abilities. MAN. This game. Is something I want to display and have my buddies that enjoy sci-fi just go: WHAT. LET’S PLAY THAT ONE. And I will do it, everytime. I mean… if we have 5-6 hours to spend.
To start of, I suck at promising myself things that I will do and then actually stick it with. Somethings I can manage easily throughout a certain amount of time but I usualy end up braking a patern and then it’s hard to get back in to it again. This really goes for any kind of promise or life decision.
Buuuuut I like making them! So instead of a: you must do this kind of thinking. I will instead do a list of things that I wish to have done during 2015 or at least attempted. No matter how much of this I do or finish I will still feel good if I just get a single thing done. So, here we go.
During 2015 I want to do the following! (In no specific order…)
1. Do an actually first draft/alpha version on one of my boardgame ideas.
2. Start doing boardgame review videos! (Alone or with a group).
3. Play in a Store Championship for a FFG game (Netrunner, Conquest etc.)
4. Get a new computer! (Can you really set this as a goal?)
5. Maaaaybe start doing a bit of streaming (again)(Like really… AGAIN)
6. Start a kickstarter, for any kind of project that has been in my head for years
7. Apply to a certain schoooool (top secret, very good, wow)
8. Get at least 10 new board games from my BG-wishlist (probably easiest on the list … )
9. Try and beat my previous best blog year (300.000 hits)
And those are the ones that I can come up with right now. Probably will put more on this list as time goes by, but for now this will do!
Until next time, take care Nurglings.
Well yes of course I’m still alive!
Do not worry, just becuase the updates are slow doesn’t mean that I’m not here. I will even be posting a guest article that was given to me well.. some time ago and it will be a bit of in time but I do have a promise to my guest writers if they do wan’t to post stuff. And once again, I’m sorry for vanishing the way I did there for some time.
But as you may remember I’m currently investing a lot of time in the project: Marathon Gaming! And with everything going on there it’s time to push out blog posts.
And I do not wan’t to push them!
But as it is now, I will actually use my personal blog as an outlet for a challenge that I’m currently running for myself on the MGTV stream. More info on that will be posted here tonight!
And of course, more MTG stuff later on tonight as well!
Stay tuned Nurglige.
Until next time, take care.
A long time ago, I asked if there was anyone out there that would like to write for this blog. At the time I didn’t get that many readers and the ones that did come on here often probably weren’t bloggers themselves. But now the number of readers has been going up steadily (yay!). So I thought I would give this another chance. This time with a little more proper request.
What am I looking for?
– Anyone is welcome to leave a message here and tell me you’re interested! It doesn’t matter what gender, how old, or where you’re from. Just enjoy writing!
– You love games and gaming
– You love writing about games and gaming!
– If you already have a blog where you write regularly that is great!
– I’d love to see people that interested in any of the following; Card Gaming in general, YuGiOh, Miniature Gaming, nerdy things, “life of a gamer” issues/thoughts and ideas.
Something that’s important for you to know is that I’m not looking to steal time from your blog writing, if you have something that you’re posting on your blog that is interesting for gaming nerds I will simply share it on my blog as well. Sure I’d love to see you write something specific that would fit on here but it’s not a requirement.
What do I as a guest writer get out of this?
– Info/PR for you and your own blog! I will make a page specially for anyone that wants to share their writing on here. There you can write a small presentation on you with a link to your own blog! (Presentation is of course optional).
– Be a part of a bigger community. If this goes well, and we get a few bloggers together, there is no end to what this could become. Next step may be a website, YouTube and Twitter account under a collaboration name.
– This is a thing that’s supposed to be FUN! Always remember that.
What is this project?
– The whole idea with this project is to create a small community with writers/gamers and hobbyist that LOVE to share their thoughts on different subjects in gaming.
– This blog will be a spring board to share our articles and thoughts to work our way up in the blogging world.
– Together we can do great things!
– Most importantly, this project is supposed to be FUN. Not a goldmine, not a publicity stunt for anyone, but a fun project with an evolving community and goal.
So what are you waiting for? Already have something that you feel would be worth sharing? Leave me a message!
And if you have any questions? Leave me a message!
Until next time Nurglings, take care.
I’m just about to post a new Yu gi oh nerds gone wild video on here. I know that most of you don’t understand those videos and I’m sorry. Really, I kinda am. Anyway I just wanted to give you a tiny update on everything and nothing.
The last few days have been ups and downs all over, and I guess I haven’t really added that much new fun content on here, a few videos but nothing really fun. I will try my best to do something interesting for the blog soon I promise. Like the card game reviews I recently talked about.
I’m glad you guys are still here with me though, even when it’s moving slow. Tomorrow there’s a “Big Standard” tournament at my local gaming shop, which basically is a Magic standard tournament with big prices. I don’t really have that much money to spend right now so, I’m taking a step back from that one (yes there’s an entry fee). I would have loved to enter with some random kick ass deck like I always do though.
For all of you that’s been waiting for my shop to open, I’m working hard on that to actually happen, the planning is underway and I’m even having some discussions with a web designer. I’ve been looking for distributors as well to find some fun items for the shop, and I’ve been doing well, lots of nice card sleeves and deck boxes are hitting the store shelves on opening day.
When that happens… I will be back to tell you!
Until next time, stay safe.
From the day that this became more of a card game blog, I have really only talked about Trading Card Games or competitive type games. I haven’t really talked that much about other types of card games like Deck Building or Living Card Games, even though I’ve played a few of those as well.
So I’m thinking about a new thing for the blog. Every week (if I can) I will try to show a new card game that I’ve played or tried or own. During this time of course I will have to actually get a few new ones and try them out. I think I have about five or six that that I could start with. Some of them are already well known and talked about on here, like Magic The Gathering, Pokémon and so on.
That wasn’t really what I wanted to talk about though, mainly I wanted to mention a Deck Building game that was recently released in English. With the awesome theme: Maids.
The game is: Tanto Cuore
One of many deckbuilding games from the company Arclight Games, they’ve designed several different awesome looking games in this genre. I do believe that this is the first one that they’ve decided to print in English and I really hope to see more of them in the future. I just love the Manga style of these games, and I bet several of my friends would enjoy sitting down looking at this game… and playing it.
A few example cards from the game. (Source: Board Game Geek . com )
As soon as I get my hands on this, I will probably do a video and written review. I need to start making more videos in General don’t I? O_O
Until next time, …get yourself some maids?…
Hello everyone! I must say feel good about Nurgle’s Place becoming the one blog I’m using, about games and different related hobbies. The one last thing I wish I could do with this blog, is to run it with other people, or rather, invite guest bloggers that can use this space to vent their thoughts on new games, events, reports, deck profiles and so on. I want to let the readers come back to a new content everyday from people that they know talk about interesting subject.
So I’m going to take a long look around the web tomorrow evening, try to find bloggers that blog for the joy of it, I will even be looking around on YouTube to find people that can make episodes to post on this blog. This is the next logical step for me and what I want this to become, I want it to grow and invite people from different hobbies to one place.
A forum, a youtube channel, interesting articles and comments and most importantly fun! Let’s make this into something special! If you’re interested to become a part of the Nurgle’s Place family, just leave me comment or email: Nurgleprobe@gmail.com
I’ll be happy to see you soon!
You will even get one a cute sign picture like me to use on the blog. 😉
So I may not be the best writer in the world, I may not have the most exciting blog that you can subscribe to. But you know what, I’m doing something that I enjoy and that’s the most important thing for this little project of mine, a project named Nurgle’s Place. And what is this about? A long boring post? Well maybe for some of you, this is the story about this blog, the person behind it and what it’s been in the past and what it will be in the future.
Let’s all sit down with a cup of hot tea, coffee, coco or whatever you prefer and read this story together.
It’s started back in the day when I went to University West, a school two hours away from where I live. I studied media in all kinds of different forms, interactive, emotional, social, commercial and so on. I’ve always enjoyed the huge subject “media” it covers so much of our lives that it’s almost impossible to comprehend before you take a step back and look at what the world is built of. Anyway, at University West we had a teacher that always wanted us to share what we were doing through blogging or some kind of social media. It may not sound so mind boggling, but during those courses, the subject of putting our work and thoughts on blogs became highly debated. What you’re looking at now, is something that has grown out of that. A blog where I share my interests and thoughts about games and other nerdy things.
To be honest, and you have to be honest at times, I’ve tried to write about things that are popular just to get a lot of hits for two or three days, I still do that of course but only if the subject at hand interests me. That is also the biggest reason that the blog has some ups and downs when it comes to content, some days I’m inspired and find a lot of things I enjoy, some days I just don’t feel like sharing anything.
I’ve had a few blogs and projects on the web long before this one, one being a card game that I and a friend worked/works on. I’ve always enjoyed creating; creating things that are enjoyed by people out there in the world, sadly this blog can’t cover that many people or even draw that much attention from the people I want to come here. I guess I could go around making a fuzz and noise about the blog and myself around the internet, but I feel that they should find their way here if something on this blog interests them.
The last week or maybe even weeks I’ve had a lot of things to think about when it comes to my blogging, should everything be shared, should the blog have a bigger focus on a certain subject to let a certain crowd enjoy it. I see a lot more activity on the blog when it’s about card games, I love card games and always try to stay on top of the ones I actually play, and I’ve tested more card games than I can count, well maybe not, I guess I can count to ten or so. I’ve never been a great player in any of the card games I tend to play, but I don’t mind being okay in several of them. Currently I’m even a Judge in the tournament card game: The Spoils. A game that I really hope will grow and become something big in the future. This blog will try it’s best to help that game out from now on. So prepare for some The Spoils content everyone.
Video games. Yea I guessed you would ask about that, I love video/pc games, and these days I mostly play the ones that allow for multiplayer, I enjoy good stories, but playing with friends is really the most enjoyable thing when it comes to gaming. Maybe that’s the reason I enjoy card games so much. Card games work, because people find the time and heart to sit down and play with strangers. But about digital gaming in general, this blog is really taking a step back from that, and that’s mostly because of my current economy, I just can’t afford new games at a good rate to review and talk about, and just posting game news like any big site out there doesn’t really interest me anymore (I used to do a lot of that). People won’t come here to read news they can find anywhere else, they will come here to read about new things, new thoughts, and a personal view on different subjects.
Well thank you for clearing my mind this evening, and I really hope you will stick around and keep yourself updated with this blog, now that I feel more secure writing about card games, there will be a lot more content to follow.
