Return to Ravnica – Artwork Spoiler – Selesnya

Hello Nurglings!

Today they started posting pieces of the Ravnica story on Today’s subject was Selesnya, and merged in to that story were a few new pieces of artwork. People are already jumping to conclusions about these pieces and well… I feel that patience is our best friend right now.

Do… if we must think about it. Look at the first piece of artwork and think about the name:

Temple Garden. (?)

(To read more about Selesnya, and see the source of these images, go here:

Selesnya Attitudes Toward Other Guilds

Boros: “They shall tire of their fighting and, when they do, the gentle embrace of Selesnya will be waiting.”

Azorius: “One day, they will free their minds from foolish, external laws and learn to obey the voice of the Conclave.”

Rakdos: “Until they submit, they must be contained.”

Golgari: “These rot-grovelers could stand to learn more from our ways instead of mucking about with their bugs and death.”

Dimir: “A ghastly horde of disconnected murderers who never fully tasted life’s true gifts.”

Simic: “Warpers of life and nature whose downfall will be their lack of community and compassion.”

Gruul: “Such a waste… and a smelly, unreasonable, destructive waste at that.”

Izzet: “Tinkerers and meddlers under the control of one oppressive ego. Doomed for failure.”

Orzhov: “They are lost in a lifeless prison of their own individual ambitions.”

Until next time Nurglings, take care.
Cya soon!

  1. I am super excited for Selesnya! Thanks for the share of the pictures!

  2. Reblogged this on Gaming is Life and commented:
Nurgleprobe was nice enough to share these pictures and as Selesnya is the guild I’m looking forward to most in the new Ravnica block, I figured I would share! I’m really hoping there are more elven wolf riders that create wolf tokens of eat you to the face! Also, the artwork is gorgeous, some of the most well blended I have seen from Wizards with little use of bold lines. I think that may say something about this guild, but we will see when we start to view other art work. Also, what is better then Armored Bears? Armored Elephants of course!

  3. I saw that article too and it seemed like they were “spoiling” a lot of cards for Selesnya without really spoiling them directly. It is making me excited for the guild, especially since I’m running an amazing GW life gain deck at the moment. I hope there are some awesome life gain cards to replace Wurmcoil Engine and Batterskull!

  4. The art work is very nice, thank you for posting as I would never have found it otherwise….
Would it be alright if I use some of the artwork in my articles on Return to Ravnica? I would make sure to add that I got the pictures from your site 🙂

  5. Some speculations:
The Ivory Trees: Guildland (cf. Vhitu-Ghazi, the City-Tree). It was emphasized how they were kept “open to access” to non-Guild members, and they go to it for its “magical auras.”

Sumala, the Topiary Grove: “Imagine a massive, dense FOREST…” I think all that hype on non-basic, land-specific interaction we’ve been getting will be rewarded with dual lands of some sort in this set, but I doubt they’ll reprint the shocklands as we knew them. My guess is that Sumala will be a Plains Forest, and its drawback will be that it’s Legendary. I predict a cycle of such dual lands. They respond to the non-basic ramp, but won’t affect Modern or Legacy in the same way that the Shocklands have.

Trostani: Already revealed as the guild leader. Her “triune” aspect will probably mean she enters the battlefield as three legendary tokens. How they interact is another matter for speculation.

Troslon: Might be the guild champion. Highly likely that the eyepatch Loxodon in the art is him.

Living Temples: If Golgari animates dead creatures, I foresee Selesnya animating lands.
