MTG – Standard Deck – Blue White Flicker

Hello Nurglings!

Now after the spoiler season, I tend to get a bit slower with my updates. Because of the massive information output the last month, I tend to slow down to not burn myself out when it comes to blogging. Now I thought I would come back and show you a sweet deck for Standard!

So the name tells you what the deck is really about, it’s a control-ish deck that uses all the new cards that lets you flicker your creatures (aka. Exile them and let them enter the battlefield instantly). This is a fun mechanic to work with and I’m just about to tickle the theme. I think that many of you competitive players can turn this into something very real.

Let’s start with the spells for this deck and save the creature interaction for later.

4x Cloudshift
4x Ghostly Flicker
1x Devastation Tide

That’s it! Okay, to be completely honest, I’m still working the ins and outs of this deck, so this will probably change in the future. But for now, it’s all about the blink, and that one Devastation Tide that works as protector against faster decks (if you actually find it in time) before sideboard.

So what do we get to blink with this deck? It’s time to look at them creatures!

Creatures: 17
4x Restoration Angel
4x Æther Adept
4x Inquisitor Exarch
3x Snapcaster Mage
2x Emancipation Angel

The biggest “what the hell is going on with the creature” moment you’re having right now is probably about the two Emancipation Angels in the deck. Well they work as a semi aggressor early and the combine themselves with other sweet cards in the deck that you will see soon. But also, they work fine with cards like Snapcaster Mage, Inquisitor Exarch and Æther Adept if you want to use them again without flicker cards.

Æther Adept works as your main removal in this deck, I originally had two Mist Ravens instead of the Emancipation Angel and that is probably a better idea if you want to work this deck somewhat more competitively. But this way, it’s more fun!

Inquisitor Exarch sticks around to get you the wins in slower matchups, you can blink him plenty of times to burn your opponent for 2 damage or, you can use him to gain some life to really pull of some sweet tricks with: Chalice of Life

2x Contagion Clasp
3x Tumble Magnet

Planeswalker: 3
3x Venser, the Sojourner

That’s right, chalice of freaking life is in this deck! Yea, I’m not kidding, it’s in it and it may actually work. I think you can build this deck to work harder just for the Chalice of Life win, but this way, it can come out of nowhere and just slap your opponent in the face. And it slaps hard…
Contagion clasp and Tumble Magnet are cards that you can either blink with Ghostly Flicker, Emancipation Angel or Venser to reset / kill creatures. You can even use it aggressively to tap out your opponents annoying creatures and kill them. Venser is an obvious fit for this deck, and I may end up removing another card to add a fourth (yea I surely will).

Yea… Seraph Sanctuary. Think about that card for a moment. Yea. That’s right, you can make Chalice of Life work better for you.
