A somewhat closer look at – Sigarda, Host of Herons

Hello Nurglings!

Time to talk about a card that you voted for! There is actually another pool that is really popular right now, but the two top cards have 22 votes each. So I will wait for a tiebreaker.

Until then: Sigarda, Host of Herons (Remember that I will be thinking: Standard Format)

Okay so let me just start with saying that the cost for this card, is really really good. Five mana for a Flying, Hexproof creature is awesome. Sigarda also protects herself from so many early removal cards in the standard environment right now. A small list of examples:

Brimstone Volley
Go For The Throat
Doom Blade
Geth’s Verdict
Tribute To Hunger
Oblivion Ring
Tragic Slip
Vapor Snag
Dismember

Yea it’s a good list of cards that she cannot be killed by. Her biggest problem in standard right now, is if she becomes a popular card. People will once again play more copies of Phantasmal Image and Phyrexian Metamorhp. That would still work as a less effective spot removal so I wouldn’t say it’s a reason not to play here, but just keep it in mind.

Another issue: 1/1 Flying Spirits. There are so many cards that can generate plenty of blockers for this angel that even if you manage to get her active early, she may have issues doing damage. Then again, that goes for most big creatures in the format. Play a few Swords of War and Peace and you solved that problem as well. Oh my, this angel equipped with swords: sounds awesome!

So even if there are answers to Sigarda, that is not a good enough reason not to play her. If this lady doesn’t see play I will be surprised. A powerful and aggressive Green/White deck would surely use here, and we may even see a Bant deck popping up in the future. I will be posting decks with this angel as soon as Avacyn Restored has been spoiled.

Until next time Nurglings, take care.
Cya soon!
